Minecraft snapshot 15w34d

Update: Snapshot 15w34d has been released to fix a memory allocation crash with the previous snapshot. Blame grum.

Update: Snapshot 15w34c has been released with even more changes to the melee combat mechanics, and some further (experimental) optimisations. Another reminder, nothing is final, we aren’t finished yet, and we are taking all feedback into account whilst designing the new gameplay. Take a backup before trying this snapshot, as it may break your world (in which case, you may yell at grum).

Update: Snapshot 15w34b has been released with further changes to the melee combat mechanics. Once again, please remember that the changes are absolutely not final nor balanced not even a little bit.

Zoooom!

That’s the sound of this update being pushed out really fast, due to some new speedy optimisations and speedy combat mechanics.

Todays snapshot makes a start on the melee combat changes, which are completely not final nor balanced at all in the absolute slightest not even a little bit really honestly seriously. We welcome all feedback, but please remember that nothing is yet balanced and the mechanics themselves are subject to change and redesign.

Here are some of the notable changes:

  • New “attack strength” combat mechanic.

  • Maps now start at a more useful zoom level.

  • New recipe for zooming in a map.

  • Lots of optimisations!

  • Improved command blocks.

  • Worsened Zombies’ arms getting tired.

And these are some of the fixed bugs:

  • [Bug MC-83471] – "CustomPotionEffects" Inoperable with Splash / lingering Potions

  • [Bug MC-85115] – Dragon Fireball doesn't have a name (entity.DragonFireball.name)

  • [Bug MC-85592] – Default log4j2.xml is suboptimal

  • [Bug MC-86137] – Crash when breaking heads

  • [Bug MC-86138] – Pick block on Mob (Dragon) Head / Structure block crashes the game

  • [Bug MC-86152] – Records lose their custom name when placed in a record player

Please report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. If nobody reports a bug, we can’t fix it!

To get snapshots, open your launcher and press the “New Profile” button. Call it “snapshots” and check the box saying “Enable experimental development snapshots” and save. To switch to the normal version, you can select it in the dropdown at the bottom left corner of the launcher. Back up your world first or run the game on in a different folder (See the “new profile” dialog).

Snapshots can corrupt your world, please backup and/or run them in a different folder from your main worlds.

The newest version of snapshot 15w34 is out, and it brings even more changes to combat! Of note, there is a focus on sword and axe mechanics. Here are some specifics:

  • "critical" and "knockback" attacks are separate mechanics now, and are done differently

  • There is an attack related to slow movement, possibly the swiping attack (hold your crouch key + left-click)

  • Axes have a unique mechanic for attacking as well (stun shield-using combatants?)

  • UPDATE: 15w34d released to fix an issue causing holes to generate in the world

Think you've found the new mechanics? Tell us about it below!

Many of the new combat mechanics revealed in the last few weeks' snapshots definitely point at a system that moves away from spam-clicking at whatever is in front of the player, and more towards thoughtful, strategic combat. Some attacks hit harder, some hit faster, and some have distinct effects separate from simple damage. It is still a work in progress, but a promising one nonetheless.

More snapshots, less problems! This particular snapshot has a heavy focus on old performance-dropping bugs, almost as old as the game itself. Specifically, memory leaks! There are some more adjustments to combat as well, and a few new additions to command blocks.

UPDATE: Even before I could finish writing this article, 35b was released! It includes a minor fix for zombie clothes.

FEATURES

  • Fixed the "vanishing chunks" problem

  • Fixed some old memory leaks in the client

  • Put some clothes on the zombies. They may be post mortal, but that’s no reason to be indecent

  • Slight re-balancing of tools & weapons

  • Even more experimental performance enhancements. Guaranteed to break at least one heart

  • New command block features!

BUGFIXES

  • [Bug MC-45763] – Some blocks are facing the wrong way if placed in an Item Frame

  • [Bug MC-86925] – Running out of memory when exiting

  • [Bug MC-86937] – Empty Chunks duplicate one-another and cause weird behaviour

  • [Bug MC-87050] – (2 bugs in one) Glitch with adding attributes to items in 1.9

Snapshots can literally cause the apocalypse, so back up your old worlds before testing. Report any and all bugs you find in Minecraft to bugs.mojang.com. If nobody reports a bug, then evil wins!

Realms map explosion and free weekend trials

Hello Minecrafters!

Minecraft Realmshas just been upgraded!

Load a minigame or map which features a custom resource pack and you’ll be asked if you’d like to download the new assets. Some maps have been updated with the packs that they originally used, such asColor CubeandBloxorz, but we’re even more excitedabout the new things that you’re going to come up with. Sound-based challenges, animated lightning swords, or a narrated museum tours. Go wild! And read on for the details.

To show off the feature, we’ve added an awesome ski resort adventure map from The VoxelBox:The Muk-Luk Lodge. It features a cast of original characters, plenty of wintry ambiance, and some sick sled jumps, making it a cool example of our new features. Read their travel brochure, or click the trailer below to find out what else awaits.

Though that’s one of our faves, there are a lot more maps worthy of your attention. Check out creations from our infinitely talented mapmakers.

Sharks vs. Steve by Twitchnitr0

Sharks vs. Steve is a map with a simple concept: fight off waves of gold, lapis, and LASER sharks! This map features acustom sound resource pack, so turn up volume to hear all of the pew pew. Play solo, or add friends for increased difficulty.

Point Runner by CitrioN and Xisuma

Point Runner is a fast-paced game that’ll give your fingers a good work out! You score by running over ore blocks, but they disappear as soon as you touch one! Point Runner features three different sets of maps and a ton of replayability.

Silent Ville by Springstof

silent ville

Silent Ville gives you the chance to start a new survival world amidst detailed farm buildings and a plentiful amount of wheat. A bread-based diet may not be the healthiest, but it’ll sure help you survive your first few days. Stay safe!

Labyrinth by samasaurus6, buckingirl4, MineyCow

The video up there is great, but dive into this map with a few friends and you’ll soon realize why we’ve included this mind-bender! Your goal is to find the rooms that correspond with your key color, while avoiding traps that slow you down. While this goes on, everyone is shifting the map to their advantage.

Build-off Parkour by SlicedLime

Build-off Parkour fuses building and parkour challenges together to create a refreshingly original map concept. Each turn, you can choose to place three blocks or attempt to complete the parkour challenge. If you make it too easy, your opponent might complete it before you! If you make it too hard… good luck!

A Treemendous Spawn by The VoxelBox

treemendous spawn

A Treemendous Spawn is another way to start a new survival world, and features a treehouse and some other lovely flora. The VoxelBox’s build team teased that they will only submit pun-based Realms maps titles from now on, and it appears they’re making good on their promise.

Zomberman by Brutec

Zomberman is a Minecrafty spin on some classic explosive gameplay. Step 1: someone set us up the bomb. Step 2:Blow up anything that isn’t you! Switch the map to huge and invite seven friends for the ultimate challenge.

Desert Ruins by AKAMc

desert ruins

Desert Ruins starts your survival world in the midst of a number of sun-baked dwellings. We’re sure it used to be quite the vacation spot, but now it’s a bit of a fixer-upper. If you’re up for the challenge, load it up and restore some life to the lost civilization.

Bubble Shooter bySlicedLime

Bubble Shooter’s gameplay will be familiar to many, as it’s been a popular style of game for over 20 years. What’s most impressive is that this was done in Minecraft, with no mods! Line up your shot, shoot a colored block at two of the same color, and pop – they’ll disappear. The current high score at the office is 17,500.

We’ve also got a few maps that aren’t new to Realms, but that we haven’t gotten a chance to show off previously: Random Skies by Dragnoz,Spindlewood by The VoxelBox, Splatter by SethBling, andSolitaire by JesperTheEnd.Most of these maps are also available for anyone to download through the creator’s linked site.

36,000 free trials

To celebrate the new maps, we’rereleasing 36,000 14-day trials into the wild! If you haven’t had a Realms subscription before, start Minecraft for PC, choose Minecraft Realms from the main menu, and if a trial link is shown, it’s yours to claim! A number of trials will be available each hour, so if you don’t see one, check back throughout the weekend.

We hope that you’ll love these features and maps as much as we do. If you have a favorite vanilla minigame or map that you’d like to see featured on Minecraft Realms, visit the Realms community on Redditand drop us a trailer or map download.

Have fun!

Minecraft Realms is always getting updated, with new custom maps you can play at any time! All maps are community-created, and ready to load up on your Realms server at any time. Neat!

Load a mini-game or map - which features a custom resource pack - and you’ll be asked if you would like to download the new assets. Some maps have been updated with the packs that they originally used, such as Color Cube and Bloxorz, but the best part is always the new things that you’re going to come up with. Sound-based challenges, animated lightning swords, or a narrated museum tours. Go wild!

To show off the feature, we’ve added an awesome ski resort adventure map from The VoxelBox: The Muk-Luk Lodge. FREE REALMS TRIALS

Wait, free stuff? Yep! Mojang's Marc_IRL announced the giveaway of 36,000 Realms codes!

To celebrate the new maps, we’re releasing 36,000 14-day trials into the wild! If you haven’t had a Realms subscription before, start Minecraft for PC, choose Minecraft Realms from the main menu, and if a trial link is shown, it’s yours to claim! Update: We’ve released snapshot 15w35b to loosen the new zombie clothes. They were so tight they couldn’t walk, poor things.

By order of the bone, today is officially declared a Wednesday.

Wednesday.

Have you ever noticed how weird that word is? Wednesday. Wednesday. It makes no sense!

Anyhows, we’re not going to be in the office much this week so we thought we’d bring you a snapshot today to fix some issues brought about by last weeks experimental changes. I also put some clothes on some zombies, as I couldn’t help but blush every time one of them walked past.

Notable changes:

  • Finished the magic trick in which we vanished chunks. They were hiding under the hat this whole time.

  • Fixed some old memory leaks in the client.

  • Put some clothes on the zombies. They may be post mortal, but that’s no reason to be indecent.

  • Slight rebalancing of tools & weapons.

  • Even more experimental performance enhancements. Guaranteed to break at least one heart.

  • Fixed some old memory leaks in the client. Sorry, did I say this already? I forgot.

  • Liked the command blocks? That wasn’t even their final form.

And these are some of the fixed bugs:

  • [Bug MC-45763] – Some blocks are facing the wrong way if placed in an Item Frame

  • [Bug MC-86925] – Running out of memory when exiting

  • [Bug MC-86937] – Empty Chunks duplicate one-another and cause weird behaviour
