What is a furnace used for? Furnaces are used to smelt and burn things for creating other things and items. It is pretty vital to the creation of most items. They are also stackable, so you have have a wall of furnaces. they will light up a room once they are activated, and can use wood,
sticks,
coal and
charcoal for burning fuel.
A furnace is created by combining 8
cobblestone as follows.
Yes it does, it is burned to heat whatever you add to the furnace just like a fuel, once burned it is gone. The stronger the fuel the longer it will heat whatever is in the furnace.
8 coals will smelt an entire stack of 64 blocks. 43 wooden planks are the next best thing - 43 wooden planks are capable of generating 64.5 smelted blocks. If you want to be really efficient and not lose that half item to nothing, put in 44 wooden planks, then take the first two smelted blocks out, and put two extra unsmelted blocks in later.
You can even add a bucket of lava to the furnace, it will burn for quite some time, and is good if you dont have any coal, and maybe a cheap source of heat ;).
Once you add a bucket of lava to a furnace the lava is used, and cannot be removed from the furnace, you get the bucket back though.
A single bucket of lava will allow for smelting of 100 blocks. The largest stack of blocks is 64. Considering that each smelting operation takes 8 seconds, to maximize the efficiency of a lava bucket, place a lava bucket with 64 blocks of unsmelted material (such as sand, cobblestone, etc.) and return between 6 minutes and 10 minutes 40 seconds later to remove 36 smelted blocks and insert 36 more unsmelted blocks.
